PUBLIC NETBASE Public Netbase bietet not-for-profit Internet Services für den Kunst- und Kulturbereich und führt den Media - Space! Veranstaltungsraum im Wiener Museumsquartier. Mittlerweile ermöglicht Public Netbase 1000 KünstlerInnen, Jugendlichen und Initiativen die aktive Mitgestaltung des World Wide Web. Public Netbase trägt durch die Informationsveranstaltungen, Workshops, Schulungen und den World Wide Web Server, der bereits 35 Millionen Mal von BenutzerInnen aus aller Welt virtuell besucht wurde, dazu bei, dass sich eine aktive Internet Szene und ein erhöhtes Bewusstsein für die Implikationen neuer Kommunikations- und Informationstechnologien herausbilden konnte. Public Netbase widmet sich schwerpunktmässig den Wechselwirkungen zwischen Kultur und Technik, Kunst und Gesellschaft, Wissenschaft und Politik und wurde unter anderem mit dem Prix Ars Electronica 95 ausgezeichnet. Public Netbase wurde im März 1995 von Konrad Becker (Kunststaatspreisträger) und Francisco de Sousa Webber als Teil des Institutes für Neue Kulturtechnologien gegründet. Dieses Institut initiierte auch die World-Information.Org, welche ein transnationaler Provider für kulturelle Information ist und sich mit gesellschaftlichen, kulturellen und politischen Dimensionen der Kommunikationstechnologie auseinandersetzt. Public Netbase was founded March 1995 by Konrad Becker and Francisco de Sousa Webber as part of the Institute for New Culture Technologies. World-Information Organization, a transnational provider for cultural information was also founded by this Institute.
